Climate adaptation measures in training courses for volunteers

Specification of the measure

As part of the Kirchentag, volunteers who e.g. take over the security service or the management of event locations, are trained in the contents and attitudes of the Kirchentag. So they are more aware of their own role and can react as sensitively as possible to participants.

Preparation for the Kirchentag in Dortmund

A collection of training content was created in advance of the training and thus also the implementation of the Kirchentag. The key question in the field of climate adaptation was: “What should security services and hall managers know about climate adaptation?”

Implementation of the training

When the training was carried out, the topic of climate change adaptation was included in the topic block “Security”. An external guest speaker from the field of security research was invited to provide security for the volunteers with the necessary information. This training was supplemented with behavioral advice on possible extreme weather situations.

Note

Events that only work with service providers should pay attention to how sensitive they are to climate change. It may be advisable to integrate the special risk assessment due to extreme weather events into tenders, in order to be able to work with sensitized people on site.
