Spray mist and setting up water games

Concretisation of the measure

The Kirchentag planned to try out water features and spray mist. The aim was to use water and the resulting evaporative cooling for personal cooling.

Preparation within the framework of the Kirchentag in Dortmund

Different ideas were pursued during the preparation. Starting with the use of a Brumisatuer (water atomizer) up to the garden hose or lawn sprinklers.

During the implementation of the Kirchentag in Dortmund

None of the ideas could be implemented in the final (see below).

Environmental/climate protection aspect

This measure is in contrast to the idea of saving water.

Climate adaptation aspect

Cooling of man and floor (see below)

Cost/benefit/effort

During the planning phase there were contacts with the city of Düsseldorf, which has a Brumisatuer. It should be used on an ash square that was part of the event area. In addition to the water play effect, the square should also be watered in this way, to avoid continuous dust formation. Shortly before the implementation it became known that the water quality at the corresponding place was not of drinking water quality. The connection of the Brumisateurs was prohibited. When organising water features, a large number of conditions must be observed – especially hygiene regulations. It can be advantageous to plan a water backflow barrier from the beginning and to use the resources of the respective city/event location. The measure can prevent heat-related diseases and in particular contribute to cooling. Depending on the duration and consumption of the water features, higher water costs must be accepted.
