A wide range of materials and services are required for the event. For example, cars and trucks are rented and containers are used for storage or as office space. Machines such as cold stores and aggregates and generators support the implementation. All off this needs to be procured. In the case of publicly funded projects, larger amounts require a call for tenders.

In some cases it was possible to change the invitations to tender. In other cases invitations to tender had already been published. In personal talks with the service providers and suppliers the considerations could be explained.

Environmental/climate protection aspect

The measure helps to protect the environment by reducing the wear and tear on materials and the installation of air conditioning, e. g. automobiles does not also have to cool down the additional solar energy by dark colors in the car.

Climate adaptation aspect

If the services and materials are intended for outdoor use, it is helpful to procure them in the brightest possible colours. The technical term albedo might help to choose. Albedo is a measure of reflectivity. The solar energy is reflected back into space at high albedo. The albedo is particularly high for light colours and special surfaces, while dark colours warm the object itself. You can also make use of them, for example for solar thermal systems for water heating or for solar cookers.

Cost/benefit/effort

The infrastructure is spared because it is not additionally warmed up by sunlight. If the requirement is already integrated into the tender, the effort is low. In the long term, a change in the market can also be expected if more attention is paid to light colours. Initially, it is important to ask suppliers to submit bids without brightness specifications, in order to enable a cost comparison. Tents were the least problematic in procurement, as the tent tarpaulins are usually white. In coordination with the use of the tent, opaque tarpaulins can also be used. Overall, the tent heats up less in sunshine. If a mixed form (opaque/transparent) is not used, additional tent lighting must be provided. But stages can then also be illuminated more specifically and thus more effectively.
