KlAnG Push function, which sends (weather) information to the participants’ smartphones

Concretisation of the measure

For years, the Kirchentag has been using an App. Within the KlAnG project this could be extended by a push function to send weather information to the participants fast and reliable.

Preparation within the framework of the Kirchentag in Dortmund

In the preparation phase, the corresponding function was tested, set up and implemented in the app.

During the implementation, the push function was used directly from the organzational management to communicate with the participants. The function on the first evening of the Kirchentag was very advantageous: In a risky weather situation, the communication with the participants could be implemented quickly and precisely.

Environmental/climate protection aspect

By extending the app, it was possible to build on already existing structures.

Climate adaptation aspect

In the future, this will lead to more frequent situations that may be relevant for events on a smaller scale and at shorter notice. A continuous view of the weather is indispensable. Also in the communication of weather-related safety information to Kirchentag participants, it was good not only to have professional support, but also to be able to communicate quickly.

Cost/benefit/effort

The measure is associated with costs, but in any case it has been worthwhile. Due to the fact, that the push function could be used for communication during critical weather situations.

Note

Depending on the target group language barriers should be considered. It can be useful to offer the texts in English. The further accessibility of an app should be tested, especially if it is used to communicate security relevant aspects.
