Concretisation of the measure<\/strong><\/p>\n

As part of the KlAnG project, we wanted to ensure that we are professionally accompanied when dealing with possible extreme weather conditions.<\/span> Therefore, the Kirchentag had direct contact with the meteorologists of the contracted company over a period of three weeks.<\/span> As a special feature the meteorologists, at least from the office’s control room, where the data streams converged, also kept an eye on the situation independently.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Preparation within the framework of the Kirchentag in Dortmund<\/strong><\/p>\n

In the meantime, there is a large number of corresponding service providers, which have been researched in advance and identified their differences and similarities.<\/p>\n

During the implementation of the Kirchentag in Dortmund<\/strong><\/p>\n

During the construction and dismantling, as well as during the implementation of the Kirchentag, we worked together with an external service provider in the field of weather monitoring. So there was always precise and current information about the weather.<\/span> Direct contact with the meteorologists enabled quick and targeted reactions.<\/span> The “Abend der Begegnung” (Wednesday) benefited from this in particular.<\/span> A storm and severe weather warning had been issued via the weather services.<\/span> Without the exchange with the meteorologists, the event could have been prematurely canceled.<\/span> Due to the continuous and professional assessment, it was clear that the storm might not affect the event areas.<\/span> The wait was worth it, the “Abend der Begenung” could be held and was a complete success.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Environmental\/climate protection aspect<\/strong><\/p>\n

Protection against extreme weather conditions and the simultaneous use of resources is more successful if there is professional weather monitoring for the event.<\/p>\n

Climate adaptation aspect<\/strong><\/p>\n

In the future, this will lead to more frequent situations that may be relevant for events on a smaller scale and at shorter notice. A continuous view of the weather is indispensable. Also in the communication of further weather-related safety information to the Kirchentag participants it was good to have professional support. The weather monitoring enabled information to be output, e.g.<\/span> protect yourself with sunscreen, drink more or take breaks in shady places if necessary.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Cost\/benefit\/effort<\/strong><\/p>\n

It was clearly a question of helping to minimise risk through better expertise. Depending on the agreement in advance (it would also be possible to involve a meteorologist directly in the organisation management), a variety of different levels of support are conceivable. Sometimes, constant contact with the fire brigade, which also monitors the weather, is enough. It helps to approach the local fire brigade at an early stage in the context of the upcoming coordination talks.
